Training Camps
« on: May 22, 2018, 02:54:23 PM »
Have you ever been to one? If so, did you get something out of it?

I am going for my 2nd year to Lake Placid with a group of people my coach puts together. He hosts us at the US Olympic Training Center in Placid and we ride, run, and swim the IMLP course. Daytime is a lot of workouts... swim bike and run, but the evenings are spent discussing rules, strategy, strength training, run analysis, and also getting to know each other and build up some new friendships.

Its nice to be able to get away for  4-5 days without having to worry about anything other than training and it really helped kick off my season last year.

I've been to two different camps and both were great for different reasons.  One was at the Olympic training center in Lake Placid, NY and the other was at the National Training Center in Clermont, FL.

Lake Placid has its own allure, because of the Olympic History and staying at the Olympic Training Center.  There is a lot to see and do in the area besides just training.  The camp was very much focused on previewing the Ironman Course, specifically the bike and run.

The camp at the National Training Center was very different as it was more about analyzing technique and improving performance.

Long story short, they both had their benefits and I would do either of them again given the opportunity as I learned a lot in both instances.

When you were at the training camp in Florida- what did they focus on for analysis? Did they do run stride and underwater video reviews?
