Did my first tri in 1983 (First place in juniors)
Went on to race bikes for a few years and, on good days, was mediocre.
From 1988 through 1993 I worked with professional and amateur cycling teams. That culminated in running the top men's and women's amateur team in the US.
Since then I've been on the staff of the best races in the US and have worked on a ton of charity rides. I still get to do fun stuff that like to this day.
I started racing again in 2009. Got on the podium at one race and won another (Clydesdale category). Raced my first 70.3 in 2010.
Took a break as my kids grew up, got divorced, got out of shape and generally had a few crappy years.
Started racing again in 2016 and get to train and race with my girlfriend Tara.
We've done a few Olympics and 2 70.3 races together. Similar schedule for 2018 with IM 70.3 Atlantic City as the goal race.
I'm a good swimmer, pretty fast on the bike (I'm a Clydesdale so...) and an OK runner.
For my 50th birthday I decided to do something completely stupid and signed up for a 50 mile trail race. I'll tell you about that over beers if you want.
After a bunch of years of working on bikes I'm pretty good at that stuff. Having been a pro team mechanic I know the guts of bikes well. For the last two years I've run a mechanics competition at Interbike (the bike industry's international trade show). Maybe messing around with bikes for 35 years pays off after all.
My day job is as the owner of a small web design agency. I've done some bike, race, and charity ride related sites so things all fit together nicely.
